San Francisco IDentities shows bureaucratic identification practices, complexities of identification photography and asks questions about identity, identification and belonging.
Various items pulled from the archives of the San Francisco History Center and James C. Hormel LGBTQIA Center are on display, including mug shots, passports, licenses, alien enemy registrations, club memberships and class photos. These documents illuminate the history of identification photography and act as lenses that reflect issues of class, gender and race.
