Professor Timothy Morton (they/them) gives a talk on the benefits of a queer ecology framework, and how it continues to make for interesting thought and action. Whether you’ve read up on queer ecology, or want to learn something new and exciting, this program will be great fun. Moderated Q&A to follow their remarks.
Morton proposed in 2010, to the Modern Language Association of America, a “Frankensteinian meme splice” of ecological and queer thought. Today, the concept of queer ecology has been developed by many thinkers. Library card holders can read Morton’s 2010 paper “Guest Column: Queer Ecology” on JSTOR.
Timothy Morton is Rita Shea Guffey Chair in English at Rice University and Director of the Cool America Foundation. They have collaborated with artists such as Björk, Jeff Bridges and Pharrell Williams. Morton’s work has been translated into 16 languages.
