6:00 - 7:30
Come learn how to engage your relatives to be willing participants in the family history process. Led by Chrislyn Choo, Brand and Innovation Director at My China Roots, this interactive workshop will help you sharpen your listening and question-asking skills to improve the quality of your conversations with family. Attendees will be paired up for a reciprocal conversation with each other, where they get to take turns role-playing as the Listener (asking questions) and the Narrator (sharing their story). Together in community, we will practice active listening with an open heart, rather than judgment or unsolicited advice when talking with loved ones about family history.
My China Roots, which San Francisco Public Library has recently added to its Articles & Databases collection, specializes in helping persons of Chinese heritage investigate their ancestry. The database counts over 200 million searchable Chinese ancestors (of which 278k are Chinese-American), and includes family tree books from China, immigration indexes from the USA, Chinese cemeteries from the USA and Southeast Asia, overseas Chinese business directories and more.
