Create your own personal shield, or chimalli in Nahuatl, inspired by Tonatiuh, the Aztec Sun Stone found in Tenochtitlan, the capital of the Aztec empire. Learn about the different elements that make up the sacred stone and how chimallis are used for protection. For ages 5-9.

About the Instructor: Rachel-Anne Palacios is a self-taught, multicultural artist, whose pieces reflect the respect she has for culture, religion, traditional values, elders and the cycle of life and death. Palacios grew up amongst Oakland's cultural diversity in a household headed by her mother and grandmother. For years, Rachel-Anne has been a beloved SFPL instructor at public art programs In addition, she is a fine arts teaching artist at The Crucible in Oakland, Oakland Unified School District and with Youth in Arts in Marin County.
