Hamburger Eyes is a zine that spotlights gritty, black-and-white photography without comment, but its lineage as a photography periodical can be traced through the collections of SFPL's Magazines and Newspapers Center at the Main Library. Find common touchstones of photographic practice and presentation by inspecting the curated selection on display in the 5th floor elevator lobby—including selections from magazine titles such as LensWork, Black & White, Aperture, Photo/Revue and Camerawork, all drawn from materials available in the Bound Magazine Browsing Collection. Located in rows 30 – 32 on the 5th floor, this non-circulating collection is always available for your perusal—find the photography magazines in the 770-778 call number range.

This exhibit is a satellite display that connects to the exhibition The Continuing Story of Life on Earth: 25 Years of Hamburger Eyes, on view in the Jewett Gallery on the Lower Level from April 23–Sept. 24, 2026.
