Author: Linda Jackson, Her Good Name

Join us for Wine & Story Time featuring San Francisco native, Linda A. Jackson, reading Chapter I of her first novel in progress, Her Good Name. Set in the Fillmore of post-WWII San Francisco, Her Good Name is a story of secrets, reinvention, death and maybe, redemption.

The story is inspired a lifetime of pouring over her father Steve Jackson, Jr’s 100s of black and white photographs depicting African Americans who migrated from all over the Jim Crow south to the West Coast as part of America’s Second Great Migration. It begins in 1946 in the burgeoning and thriving neighborhood of the Fillmore, and moves intermittently back in time to construct the southern roots and past histories of her protagonist and other key characters within the story. 

Linda A. Jackson is a native San Franciscan and a working writer, historian, photographer, vocalist, film critic and food artist. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Mt. St. Mary’s University in Los Angeles and her Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles. As a performer she has been a member of the San Francisco Performing Arts Workshop, the Berkeley Repertory Theater and the Oakland Opera. She also spent eleven years working as a comedy writer and standup comedian in Los Angeles. She is the 2022 recipient of an Emerging Writers grant from the San Francisco Arts Commission to support the work of her first novel, Her Good Name. and has also written a collection of short stories entitled, The Religion of Slaves.
