Presentation: Unveiling the Mysteries of the Himalayas

The Himalayan region remains a mystery to most people—remote, vast, and often called “the roof of the world.” After three months of travel across this formidable landscape, photographer and geographer Dianne Mao returned with a remarkable collection of images, videos, and stories that she now shares with her audience.

Dianne Mao will present her photographic works that capture sweeping valleys, glaciated peaks, starlit skies, and intimate moments of life woven into these majestic environments. She will also share stories ranging from glaciers to wildlife, from trekking adventures to the daily life of Tibetan people—offering the audience a rare glimpse of the Himalayas beneath their veil of mystery. Together, they form a visual narrative of solitude, endurance, and the quiet spiritual rhythm of a land rarely seen so closely.

About the Photographer

Dianne Mao is a nature and landscape photographer based out of the San Francisco Bay Area. She enjoys hiking, art, the great outdoors, and of course, photography. Growing up in Beijing, China, Dianne comes from a long line of geographers with opened her eyes to the wonders of wilderness expeditions.

Since moving to the United States, Dianne has married her love of art and nature into a passion for landscape photography. This creative outlet has allowed her to explore the most remote regions of the world through new eyes.

From humble beginnings shooting photographs of farms and ranches around her neighborhood Tri-Valley, Dianne eventually ventured to different states, countries, and ultimately far-flung continents. She is well-traveled, and has explored regions including United States, Argentina, Canada, Kenya, Europe, and rural China.

Dianne’s photography has gained wider recognition, with her work published on the international platform 1x.com. She has been invited to speak at photography seminars hosted by the Pleasanton Public Library and Beijing Normal University in China. Her photographs have been exhibited in solo shows at the East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD), Livermore Public Library, and Pleasanton Public Library, and have also been selected for inclusion in international exhibitions.

Between 2024 and 2025, Dianne extensively explored the Tibetan Plateau, often documenting remote areas rarely seen by outsiders. Her approach is both intentional and intuitive—chasing light at the edges of day, waiting for a cloud to shift or a shadow to fall just right. Her work serves as a visual meditation on silence, space, and resilience, offering viewers a rare window into landscapes where nature and culture are deeply intertwined.

Dianne Mao 是一位自然与风景摄影师，居住在旧金山湾区。她热爱徒步、艺术、大自然，当然还有摄影。Dianne 成长于中国北京，来自一个地理学家世家，这样的背景让她从小便对荒野探险充满好奇与热情。

自从移居美国后，Dianne 将对艺术与自然的热爱结合，投入风景摄影的创作。这一创意出口让她得以用全新的视角探索世界上最偏远的地区。

从最初在 Tri-Valley 附近拍摄农场与牧场起步，Dianne 渐渐走向更远的地方，踏足不同的州、国家，甚至遥远的大洲。她的足迹遍及美国、阿根廷、加拿大、肯尼亚、欧洲以及中国的乡村地区。

Dianne 的摄影作品逐渐受到广泛关注，并登上国际摄影平台 1x.com。她曾受邀在美国普莱森顿公共图书馆与中国北京师范大学举办的摄影研讨会上演讲。她的作品曾在东湾市政公用事业局（EBMUD）、利弗莫公共图书馆与普莱森顿公共图书馆举办个展，并入选多场国际摄影展览。

在 2024 至 2025 年间，Dianne 深入探索了青藏高原，经常记录那些外人鲜少踏足的偏远地区。她的创作方式兼具计划性与直觉性——追逐日出日落的光影，等待云层移动或阴影落下的那一刻。她的作品是一种视觉上的冥想，呈现出宁静、空间与韧性的交织，为观众开启一扇窗，窥见自然与文化深度交融的风景。
