Four California Native artists (three of them young adults) share traditional knowledge and creative expression to strengthen connections to their ancestral lands. They created a dance for a 2018 Indigenous People’s Day Sunrise Ceremony on Alcatraz, nearly 50 years after the Indians of All Tribes occupied the island.
We’ll also show a short film with some of the same artists telling the folktale How Turtle Got the Cracks on His Back, danced among Mission District murals and natural landscapes of San Francisco/Yelamu. Stay for conversation afterwards.
For ages 13 and older.
