Fodor's, Lonely Planet and Rick Steves travel guides are flying from library shelves. Potrero Branch encourages patron wanderlust. The Black Stallion, based on the Walter Farley tale, is the ninth adventure movie of the ongoing Sunday Sojourn CInema Series.

Following a fiery shipwreck, ten-year-old Alec Ramsay and a black stallion survive on a deserted island. The Oscar–nominated cinematography, which chronicles the wordless development of trust between Alec Ramsay and The Black, is cinematic storytelling perfection. The musical score, also Oscar–nominated, accentuates the evolution of their relationship from tenuous fear and testing to the joyous abandonment into trust. Alec triumphantly riding The Black bareback, arms raised, with thunderous tides rushing underfoot the stallion are visually mesmerizing. After their rescue, the filming of Henry Dailey (Mickey Rooney) astride a bale of hay, demonstrating jockeying technique to Alec, is motion picture mastery.
