Fodor's, Lonely Planet and Rick Steves travel guides are flying from library shelves. To encourage patron wanderlust, Potrero Branch presents the animated film, Up, the fifth film of the Sunday Sojourn Cinema Series.
Acting out his fantasy adventures as an explorer, Carl is stopped in his tracks by a commanding voice. He discovers Ellie at the helm flying her imagined zeppelin. Their leather fly helmets and goggles, spirit-of-adventure-friendship is forged in minutes. Carl pledges to fulfill her revealed dream of traveling to South America and resting her dilapidated "play" house beside Paradise Falls, Venezuela.
Years pass. The adventuresome friends marry. To fulfill his cross-his-heart promise to Ellie, widower Carl Friedricksen attaches thousands of colorful helium balloons to their home. With its liftoff, Carl floats to South America. His journey, complete with stowaway Boy Scout, affirms Ellie's call to the wild blue yonder on the day they first met, "Adventure is out there!"
