In this fourth and final talk of the series, scholars Patricia Southard and Elizabeth Thacker-Estrada discuss the turbulent decades from the 1970s to the present day -- from First Ladies Betty Ford to Melania Trump -- when the Women's Rights Movement experienced progress and backlash as it expanded to include gender equity and equality in all aspects of society. During this era, a new breed of First Lady emerged. More presidential wives spoke out in their own name and from their own "white glove pulpit." The talk concludes with a look forward.
