Be there for the opening night celebration when James Weldon Johnson’s soaring words “Lift Every Voice” from the Black National Anthem are elevated and illuminated atop the revived bandshell. Enjoy live music, spoken word and special messages from U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo and U.S. Congressman James Clyburn. Also, see the unveiling of de Truth, an exhibition of scrolling poetry lasered across the entire 450-foot façade of the de Young Museum.

The Alterverse is a family-friendly and free December-long Celebration of Poetry & Light centered in the heart of Golden Gate Park.
