Remarkable dramatization of the real-life travails and triumphs of a French magazine editor (Mathieu Amalric) who suffers a massive stroke at 43, leaving him with movement only in his left eyelid. Directed by acclaimed artist Julian Schnabel, who was nominated for an Oscar, as was Ronald Harwood for his script, which was based on protagonist Jean-Dominique Bauby's best-selling 1997 memoir. Rotten Tomatoes rating of 94%.

"Nothing in director Julian Schnabel's career so far [2008] has anticipated the sweetness, sadness, maturity and restraint of this lovely movie." — Peter Bradshaw, Guardian

PG-13, 111 min., 2007. Closed captions (CC) in English.
