On Feb. 12, 2004, pioneering lesbian activists Del Martin and Phyllis Lyon are officially wed by San Francisco City Hall officials on their 51st anniversary, after then-Mayor Gavin Newsom makes the historic decision to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples.
