This four-part series of classes will focus on basic research methods and terminology, gathering records from home and from family members, discussing common (and uncommon) family history records, and looking at the resources available both online and in libraries, repositories, and archives. This series of classes will not only benefit beginning genealogists but usually provides new information for others who are currently doing family research. The four classes will be on the 3rd Tuesday of the month, June to September.

Class 3 (Aug. 20) will cover:
  • Field questions from previous class about charts, using FamilySearch.org and how to use indexed and non-indexed records
  • Saving your resource documents (on computer or in hard copy files)
  • Finding and using secondary sources: genealogies, county histories, newspapers, etc.
  • Accessing information at state and county archives, historical and genealogical societies, and state, county and city libraries
Class 4 (Sept. 17) will cover:
  • Beyond vital records and census records: probate records, land records, passenger lists, naturalizations and more
  • How to find other family members to aid in your research

Presenter Jane Knowles Lindsey has been a member of the California Genealogical Society since 2000. She served as president and chaired many committees of the society, including leading research trips to Salt Lake City, Boston, and Fort Wayne, Indiana. She has been researching her family history since 1982 and enjoys helping others with their research.

Registration is not required. It is recommended to come to all classes, but if that is not possible, you are welcome to come to any of them.
