A Word Week 2020 event: Chinese Detainee Poetry at Angel Island

Author Jeffrey Thomas Leong will read from his translation of Angel Island poetry in Wild Geese Sorrow: The Chinese Wall Inscriptions at Angel Island, winner of the Northern California Book Award for Translation in Poetry, and original poems about the detainee experience from Writ, his most recent book.

He will also provide a visual tour of poems on the barrack walls and discuss the Chinese Exclusion Act, Asian immigration, and the challenges of translating Tang poetry. Complimentary tea and Chinese sweets. Copies of the books will be available for purchase and signing.
