Artificial intelligence is already shaping our work and daily life – but we have the power to decide whether the future will be a utopia or dystopia. Panelists Annalee Newitz and Andrea Dehlendorf discuss the impacts of AI on workers, who bears the burden of automation and job transformations, and how we can take control of our own technology. Annalee Newitz writes science fiction and nonfiction. They are the author of the book Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age, and the novels The Future of Another Timeline, and Autonomous, which won the Lambda Literary Award. As a science journalist, they are a writer for the New York Times and elsewhere, and have a monthly column in New Scientist.
Andrea Dehlendorf is Executive Director of United for Respect (UFR), which focuses on improving working conditions in the retail sector.
Moderator Stephanie Bell is a research fellow working on the AI and Shared Prosperity Initiative. Her work focuses on ensuring technological gains from AI translate into equitable economic growth and high quality jobs.
