Fodor's, Lonely Planet and Rick Steves travel guides are flying from library shelves. To encourage patron wanderlust, Potrero Branch presents the magnificent musical,The King and I, the sixth film of its Sunday Sojourn Cinema Series.

Anna Leonowens is a widow and single mother from Great Britain, who accepts a position as teacher for the royal children of Siam. King Mongkut is the "scientific" and conflicted ruler, who is striving to modernize Siam while remaining tied to ancient traditions. In addition to her role as teacher, Anna develops into an unofficial diplomat who provides counsel to the King. Her fearless expression of her opinions is provocative and attractive. The chemistry shared between the King and Anna is electric. Shall we dance? Etc. etc. etc.

G, 133min., 1956.

Director: Walter Lang
