Celebrate summer with the Library, at this free and intergenerational event on Terrace Lawn, in front of Conservatory of Flowers.

11:15 a.m. – 11:45 a.m. Drumming performance and workshop with Duniya Drum and Dance Company

12:00 p.m. – 1 p.m., Story and Art Hour with Kenard Pak, author-illustrator, & Monica Wesolowska, author:

  • Pak is the Library's 2025 Summer Stride artist and illustrator of children's book, On a Summer Night. Listen as Pak reads aloud his book and pick-up a free copy of On a Summer Night, to get signed by the illustrator. Space limited.
  • Wesolowska is the author of children's book, Leo + Lea, with Pak as the illustrator of the book. Listen as Wesolowska reads aloud her book and pick-up a free copy of Leo + Lea, to get signed by the author and illustrator. Space limited.
  • Get inspired with Ken and participate in a mixed media art session: Art kits are available on a first-come, first-served basis. Space limited.

Enjoy, throughout the day:

  • Nature play activities with SF Botanical Garden's Bean Sprouts program, offering free events for children of all ages.
  • Visit an Animal Ambassador and participate in a birding activity with Randall Museum, a museum of science, nature and the arts as well as a San Francisco Recreation and Park Department community learning center.
  • Screen-printing with Haight Street Art Center. See screen-printing in action and pull a print yourself to take home. Haight Street Art Center serves San Francisco’s thriving poster art and artist communities with education and cultural development programs and exhibitions.
  • Art activity with a Teaching Fellow from Root Division, a visual arts non-profit, connects creativity and community through a dynamic ecosystem of arts education, exhibitions, and studios. 
  • New book giveaway, for all-ages.
  • Button-making, for all-ages.
  • STEM activities, for youth.

Summer Stride is the Library's annual summer learning, reading and exploration program for all ages and abilities. Read and learn with the Library all summer long.
