In a distant future, the human race has lost its individuality. Everyone dresses the same, and people live in complete subservience to the State. Love and sex is a crime. One man, designated THX-1138, begins to consider the unthinkable: he is in love with LUH-3417, and wants out.

Released March 11, 1971, filming locations include the unfinished tunnels of the Bay Area Rapid Transit subway system, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, the Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the Lawrence Hall of Science in Berkeley, and the San Francisco International Airport.

Discuss the film with other moviegoers and enjoy drink specials across the street from the library at Glen Park Station where you can bring in food from local restaurants after the film. A presentation of Bay on Film Society.

THX 1138 is available for free with your SFPL library card on DVD and Blu-ray.

PG, 86 mins., 1971. Closed captions (CC) in English.
