Spinning is an ancient textile art in which plant, animal or synthetic fibers are drawn out and twisted together to form yarn. For thousands of years, fiber was spun by hand using simple tools, the spindle and distaff. Hand-spinning remains a popular handicraft. We will repurpose modern materials to create a yarn spindle, making wool yarn while exploring spindles from other cultures. Space limited. Reservations required: (415) 355-5717, starting October 1.
