Join us for the opening reception of Living Tattoo Traditions: American Irezumi and Beyond. Explore the unique ways the art of the tattoo tells stories of identity, place and cross-cultural embodiment and experience: growing comfortable in our skin, our tattooed skin. The reception kicks off with taiko drumming in the Atrium with Wadaiko Newark. Share your own tattoo story, make a wish to the tattoo gods, listen to vinyl spun by DJ Deathbeats and Big Nate and get inspired by all the inked skin! Light snacks will be served. Part of SF First Thursday Art Walk.

Program Schedule: 

Taiko Drumming, 5:00–5:30 p.m. Atrium 

Opening Reception, 5:30–7:30 p.m. Jewett Gallery 

 

Wadaiko Newark was formed in November 2002 and is a Taiko group formed in cooperation with the Newark Unified School District and serving the people in Alameda County in California. As part of the local school system, we are able to offer adult evening classes through Adult Education and children’s classes on Saturdays through Wadaiko Newark Children's Group.
