The Family of Man is an inspiring celebration, through art and writing, of the diversity and commonality of people. Funny, poignant, this performance highlights the struggles of everyday working folks—the nextdoor neighbor, the coach, the manicurist, the artist, the college professor, and so on. They have wrestled with racism, sexism, unemployment, gun violence, homophobia and Covid.

These fictional characters have sometimes triumphed and sometimes they haven’t. They vow to keep up the good fight such as the used book store owner. Others simply continue—one foot in front of the other. 

Leslie Goldberg, a former newspaper writer with the San Francisco Examiner, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize for her investigative reporting. She taught writing and reporting at San Francisco State University and at City College of San Francisco. She is a cartoonist and artist whose work has been displayed at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art, the Sonoma Art Guild, the Spark Arts Gallery in San Francisco as well as other places. She currently teaches classes on process painting.
