Queer Pilipinx are invited to have portrait sessions with queer siblings, elders, friends, romantic partners and anyone who has supported their queer journeys with esteemed Bay Area Pilipinx photographers. Local Filipina/o/x fashion retailers will offer accessories and adornment pieces for further inspiration; Filipiniana or cultural dress is welcome and encouraged.

Project organizers, Kimberly Acebo Arteche and Aimee M. Espiritu, draw inspiration from John L. Silva’s groundbreaking title, A Token of our Friendship, which documents traditional portraits of Filipino men through coded moments of male affection. In recognition of the evolving journey for Queer Pilipinx to create safe and courageous spaces with chosen family that heal familial wounds, this project aims to document the navigation and homing of belonging and safety of Queer Pilipina/o/x within the diaspora.

Space limited. To reserve a portrait session, email hormel@sfpl.org by October 20, 2024.
