Christopher Pollock, author of San Francisco’s Parks, shares how the city’s landscapes have evolved—from early gathering spaces like Portsmouth Square to transformed waterfront and neighborhood recreation sites—and highlights the many ways these spaces have served the public over time.

Christopher Pollock is the author of San Francisco’s Parks and served as the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department’s first Historian-in-Residence. His work focuses on documenting and interpreting the history of the city’s park system, bringing historical context to the evolution of San Francisco’s public spaces.
