Artists' Television Access (ATA) teams up with SFPL to mine the treasures in the Library's 16mm film archive. That's real film, not video!

They will be showing : The Willmar Eight (1981) & Janie's Janie (1971)

The documentary The Willmar 8 (1981, 16 mm) screens as part of the Library's HERStory programming in March. When eight bank employees picketed their employer in small town Minnesota, an important chapter for women’s rights began. Oscar-winning actress, director, and one-time blacklistee Lee Grant tells the remarkable story of a band of women who embarked on the longest bank strike in American history in protest of gender discrimination.

Janie's Janie (B/W, 1971, 28 min.)
Documentary following one woman’s journey to self-determination. Janie is a White working-class welfare mother who divorces her jealous husband and becomes active in politics.

This is a Films & Videos program from SFPL. From feature films to youth-made videos, we’ve got something great to watch.

HERstory, celebration of Women’s History Month, honoring the contributions of women and the unique experience of being female today.
