HBC47: Hand Bookbinders of California

Annual Members' Exhibition
Event detail

The Marjorie G. and Carl W. Stern Book Arts & Special Collections Center presents the Hand Bookbinders of California's Annual Members' Exhibition to celebrate the group's forty-seventh year. The Hand Bookbinders of California is an organization dedicated to fostering the traditions of fine binding and book arts among its members and cultivating a public appreciation of these arts. This exhibit features a wide variety of both traditional and innovative approaches to the art of bookbinding and includes a special project in which some of the members bound quires from the 1937 edition of Bret Harte's The Right Eye of The Commander published by Wilder Bentley at the Archetype Press. At the conclusion of the exhibit, the copies of The Right Eye of The Commander will become part of the San Francisco Public Library's Grabhorn Bookbinding Collection.

A gallery talk for this exhibit will occur on August 18th at 2pm.

This is a Making & Creative Arts program from SFPL. Create with us- from clothes to robots to so much more. All materials are provided, unless noted.
