Larry Oppenheim of Opera for the People will tell and show--with film clips--the story of Rusalka by Antonín Dvořák to be performed by the SF Opera from June 16th to June 29th, 2019. Mr. Oppenheim will prepare us to understand and enjoy the plot and characters of Rusalka, based in part on the story of "The Little Mermaid," a heartbreaking tale of love and sacrifice. This operatic fantasy looks beyond the storybook world of happily-ever-after to expose truths that are powerfully and painfully human.

Larry Oppenheim's goal is to make opera more enjoyable and accessible to the average person--including those who may never have gone to an opera. An oboist, Larry was president of the Kensington Symphony Orchestra (East Bay) from July 2008 to June 2016. Back by popular acclaim, Mr. Oppenheim has given ten previous opera talks at West Portal.

This is a Performance program from SFPL. We host events featuring music, art, dance and more.
