*Author Talk: Alexander Chee

How to Write an Autobiographical Novel
Event detail
Add to my calendar

The November/December On the Same Page author, Alexander Chee, will discuss his writing process, queer activism during the AIDS crisis in San Francisco and thoughts on growing up mixed-race in America.

The short essays that make up Alexander Chee’s accessible volume How to Write an Autobiographical Novel are full to the brim with feeling. They don’t make for a simplistic portrait; like a Picasso, different angles show a complex identity. This collection isn’t an instruction manual for writing autobiographically: it showcases one person’s experiences over decades who ended up becoming an author.

For those who are writers, or those who are interested in the writing process because they love reading, there’s much to take away from this book, which contains moments of joy and trauma and growth.

On The Same Page is a bimonthly city-wide read.

This is a NaNoWriMo event. National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is a fun, seat-of-your-pants approach to creative writing. Valuing enthusiasm, determination and a deadline. On November 1, participants begin working towards the goal of writing a 50,000-word novel by 11:59 PM on November 30.
