Tim Holt evokes in words and music the life of Woody Guthrie, the American musician who experienced the drought and Great Depression of the 1930s. He saw Dust Bowl refugees forced out of their camps along California highways by vigilantes and sheriff's deputies, watched them bury infants lost to malnutrition and disease. Deeply moved by these experiences, he took on the role of troubadour and spokesperson for the dispossessed, writing songs that tell the stories of Americans forced from their homes and turned into economic refugees in their own country, traveling by road and train in search of a better life.

The audience will be invited to sing along with Tim on Guthrie’s songs including "So Long It's Been Good To Know Ya," "I Ain't Got No Home," and his most famous, "This Land Is Your Land." All are eminently singable ballads whose haunting lyricism and truth-telling have made them American classics.

John Steinbeck, who watched Guthrie perform in California migrant camps, said this: "There is nothing sweet about Woody, nothing sweet about the songs he sings. But there is something more important for those who will listen. There is the will of a people to endure and fight against oppression. I think we call this the American spirit."
