What began with an invitation to a mid-’70s house party led to trusting friendships with a queer community in which personal expression, friendship and theater thrived.

Focusing her lens on portraits and stories, Chester captures the lovers and flirts at a historic moment in a laissez-faire city. Curated from a series of roughly 400 photographs taken over the course of eight months, these images offer a view into the pre-AIDS era in San Francisco. In Search of the Glass Slipper recalls a unique moment in time and reveals the seldom seen.
