Preview the upcoming Independent Lens documentary Bike Vessel and learn the basics of bicycling with the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition.

Film Preview: Bike Vessel

Knowing his dad miraculously recovered from three open-heart surgeries after discovering a passion for cycling, filmmaker Eric D. Seals proposes an ambitious idea: Bike together from St. Louis to Chicago. 350 miles. 4 days. On their journey, the two push each other as they find a deeper connection and a renewed appreciation of their quests for their own health and to reimagine Black health.

NR, 60 mins., 2025. Closed captions (CC) in English.

Presentation: San Francisco Bicycle Coalition

After the film, stay for a special presentation about the basics of bicycling in SF and the Bay Area, bikes as a vehicle for joy and mobility and much more! The San Francisco Bicycle Coalition will discuss choosing a bike, the rules of the road, navigating city traffic and tips and tools to help you head out on your own biking adventure. They will also discuss the benefits of mobility and movement through the world for people of any and all ages and experience levels.

For over 50 years, the San Francisco Bicycle Coalition has been transforming San Francisco streets and neighborhoods into more livable and safe places by promoting the bicycle for everyday transportation. They are one of the largest and most effective bicycle advocacy groups in the country. Through their day-to-day advocacy, education and working partnerships with City and community agencies, the SF Bicycle Coalition creates safer streets and more livable communities for all San Franciscans.
