UC Berkeley PhD Candidate and author, Tyus D. Williams will share his story of passion and adoration for animals and his scientific journey into wildlife research. Afterward there will be a lively and engaging reading of Williams' book, A Day in the Life, Big cats: What do lions, tigers, and panthers get up to all day?, followed by a Q&A.
Tyus Williams is a fourth-year NSF-funded Ph.D. candidate at UC Berkeley, studying carnivore and spatial ecology in the Schell and Brashares labs. His research focuses on the ecological impacts of free-roaming domestic cats in the East Bay region, examining how urban environments may facilitate their influence on wildlife communities using tools like camera trapping and behavioral analysis. An accomplished author, Tyus published his debut book, A Day in the Life, Big cats: What do lions, tigers, and panthers get up to all day?, in 2022, which was featured on Kirkus’ 'Best Picture Books of 2022 for Animal Lovers'. He is also a passionate science communicator dedicated to inclusive public engagement in science.
