Progress to the next level at the Bright Knights Chess Club tournament perfect for beginners. The tournament is limited to participants with US Chess Federation rating less than 800. For ages 12–17.

There are four levels of competitions:

  • A. Beginner - A player new to chess and who has learned to move.
  • B. Novice - A player who knows how to move and understands basic chess strategy.
  • C. US Chess Federation Rated Under 700 - Requires USCF membership to play. Games are reported to the US Chess Federation for National ranking. Membership can be registered or renewed at US Chess. 
  • D. US Chess Federation Open Rated 700 - Requires USCF membership to play. Games are reported to the US Chess Federation for National ranking. Membership can be registered or renewed at US Chess. This section is for players rated 700 or higher in either quick or regular rating. 

Tournament Format:

  1. Standard US Chess Federation Rules: There are four non-elimination rounds where all players get to play four games regardless of win, draw or loss. 
  2. Round clock time is 20 minutes per player with five second delay. A clock may or may not be assigned. 

Awards:

  • Medals to top three beginners and trophies to top three in novice & US Chess Federation quick rated rections.
  • Chess pin to all participants that complete all four rounds.

Bright Knights Chess Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, California. Their mission is to bring the community together through the game of chess. Bright Knights Chess Club hosts free chess programs, community events and tournaments in the San Francisco Bay Area.
