Celeste Ng's novel Little Fires Everywhere focuses on two families living in 1990s Shaker Heights, Ohio. When old family friends of the Richardsons attempt to adopt a Chinese American baby, a custody battle erupts that dramatically divided the town and puts Mia and Elena on opposing sides.
