Yaa Gyasi's Homegoing is a historical novel that traces the descendants of two half-sisters Effia and Esi born into different villages in Ghana. The sisters' lives follow different paths - Effia marries a wealthy Englishman while Esi is captured during a raid and sold into slavery.
