Xu Beihong 徐悲鴻 (1895-1953) is widely known as the father of modern Chinese painting. Famous for his ink brush paintings of galloping horses, pioneering Chinese artist Xu Beihong integrated Chinese and Western painting and mentored generations of Chinese artists. Speaker Xu Fangfang, Xu Beihong’s daughter, will introduce her memoir, Galloping Horses: Artist Xu Beihong and His Family in Mao’s China, which describes how Xu Beihong's family and legacy survived the political turbulence from 1949 through 1976. The presentation will include high-quality images of Xu Beihong's masterpieces such as his famous Galloping Horse, followed by book signing after the presentation. About the Speaker

Born in Beijing, Xu Fangfang moved to the U.S. in 1981 and earned a B.A. in history from the University of California, Berkeley, and an M.B.A. from Stanford University. In 2000, she became the founding director of the music department at Renmin University of China. She helped initiate and facilitate the first comprehensive solo U.S. exhibition of Xu Beihong’s work, presented by the Denver Art Museum, October 2011 to January 2012. She has published several articles on Xu Beihong and his art, including “Xu Beihong’s Life and Art” and “Xu Beihong's Connection with India” in Art no. 09 (2020).

徐芳芳出生于北京,1981年移居美国并在加州大学伯克莱分校获得历史学士学位和在斯坦福大学获得工商管理硕士学位。在2000年,她担任中国人民大学音乐部门主任。2011年10月至2012年1月,她协助发起并促成了丹佛艺术博物馆在美国首次举办徐悲鸿作品综合个展。她发表了多篇有关徐悲鸿及其艺术的文章,包括《徐悲鸿的生活与艺术》和艺术编号9 (2020)“徐悲鸿与印度的联系”。
