Film Preview: The Tuba Thieves

Between 2011 and 2013, tubas were stolen from high schools across Southern California. Against this backdrop, hard of hearing filmmaker Alison O'Daniel generates new sensitivity to sound and meaning in an unconventional documentary experience.

The Tuba Thieves was recently selected as a Critic’s Pick by The New York Times.

NR, 45 mins., 2023. Closed captions (CC) in English.

Community Discussion

While watching clips from the film, we will have an engaging and interactive conversation around the expansion of sound, how media is experienced by d/Deaf/hard of hearing audiences and hearing audiences, and how captioning can be elevated to provide much more than dialogue.

Space limited. Reservations required: (415) 355-2880 or online
