We Were Here documents the arrival of what became known as the “Gay Plague” in the early 1980s, illuminating the profound personal and community challenges brought on by the AIDS epidemic and the broad political and social upheavals that followed. Through the intimate recollections of five longtime San Franciscans whose lives were irrevocably changed, the film captures an epic history rooted in love, compassion and determination.
This special film screening is followed by a conversation with filmmaker David Weissman and special guests. Presented by Renegade Humanities Collective and the SFPL James C. Hormel LGBTQIA Center of in partnership with the Frameline50 SF International LGBTQ Film Festival 2026.
