SFPL presents the opening reception for the Wood Engravers’ Network Fifth Triennial Exhibition, a traveling exhibition featuring contemporary wood engraving by artists working across six countries.
Selected by guest curator Max Yela, Head of Special Collections at the University of Wisconsin–Milwaukee Libraries, the exhibition presents 60 prints chosen from more than 140 submissions. The works emphasize relief engraving created primarily with burins, highlighting precision, patience and close attention to detail.
Rooted in long-standing print traditions, wood engraving remains a labor-intensive practice that continues to support new approaches and subject matter. The prints on view demonstrate the range and adaptability of the medium while reflecting a shared commitment to craft.
Presented as part of SF First Thursday Art Walk.
