The Wood Engravers’ Network (WEN) proudly presents its Fifth Triennial Exhibition, a traveling show featuring work by 55 artists working in six countries. Out of 140 entries, 60 prints were selected for this exhibition by guest curator Max Yela, Head of Special Collections at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Libraries.
This exhibition celebrates the vibrant world of wood engraving, where tradition meets innovation, and craftsmanship intertwines with artistic expression. Eligibility guidelines required that original prints submitted be primarily relief engraving using burins rather than woodcut gouge tools.
Wood engraving requires considerable patience, skill and attention to detail. The slow nature of this type of work is appealing in current days of ever-increasing pace.
In this exhibition, you will encounter a diverse array of works that showcase the boundless possibilities of this age-old yet ever-evolving medium. The Wood Engravers’ Network brings together artists from around the globe who share a passion to keep this art form alive.
