NPS park rangers reflect on their experiences as Asian and Pacific Islander, Americans and Park Rangers.

The history of Asian and Pacific Islander communities in the Bay Area is fascinating, but seldom recognized as American history. Despite multiple generations of Asian and Pacific Islanders in San Francisco, there persists lingering questions of identity, ‘American-ness’ and place. From communities that transcend borders, we ask, ‘What is our place in this world, if not the U.S.?’
