Panel: SF's Girls Chorus presents Tomorrow's Memories

Saturday, 12/11/2021
11:00 - 12:00

SFPL hosts the launch of the SF Girls Chorus Community Book Club Series celebrating Tomorrow’s Memories: A Diary, by Angeles Monrayo, the true diary of Monrayo, a Filipina girl who immigrated to Hawaii and California in the 1920’s. The Diary is the inspiration for a new choral opera by Dr. Matthew Welch, commissioned by SF Girls Chorus and set to premiere in San Francisco in 2022.

Watch on YouTube.

The virtual launch of the book club series is led by Valerie Sainte-Agathe, Artistic Director of the San Francisco Girls Chorus, Sean San Jose, Artistic Director of the Magic Theater, Dillon Delvo, Executive Director & Co-Founder of Little Manila Rising, Lily Ann Bolo Villaraza, PhD, Department Chair, Philippine Studies Professor of History, and Abraham Ignacio, Librarian of the Filipino American Center at the SF Public Library.

Additional sessions in the series will feature speakers, organizations and experts in the field such as Kapwa Gardens, University of Hawai`i at Manoa and more. Participants will also hear how the artistic process of making the choral opera will unfold.

We look forward to seeing you at this launch event and to exploring the important themes and lessons that inform San Francisco Bay Area history and its identity today.
