Author Anne Whiteside discusses her new book, The Moon in Splinters.
The story of Maurice Pertschuk, the author’s uncle, murdered by the Nazis at age 23, was shrouded in family silence for decades. After her mother’s death, she sets out to learn why, tracking down survivors, archival records and testimonies. The result: a gripping account of clandestine life: idealism, romance, betrayal and the heroism of the ordinary men and women in his circuit, who risked their lives to restore French democracy.
