T(w)een Winter Read

""

Cozy up with a book over Winter Break. It’s time for T(w)een Winter Read, the best tween and teen winter reading program in the Bay Area. Tag your favorites on Instagram and include #themixatsfpl. For ages 10–18.

How to sign up

T(w)een Winter Read starts December 1, 2021 and finishes January 9, 2022. Join our challenge on Beanstack.

What are the steps?

  1. Register on Beanstack.
  2. Track minutes and earn virtual badges to complete ten hours of reading, completing the SFPL Explorer Map or making art.
  3. Read in a variety of formats from print to electronic and a range of genres from graphic novels to science fiction. Reading to your dog, cat or plant counts!

And the prizes?

  • Registrants can choose to pick up a Museum of Craft and Design MakeArt kit at participating locations, while supplies last.
  • Finishers can pick up a prize pack with a tote, book and other winter goodies at participating locations starting December 17, while supplies last.
  • Participants can also complete 300-word book reviews in Beanstack for a chance to win a $100 scholarship deposit into a ScholarShare or Kindergarten to College (K2C) account. Winners will be randomly chosen every week during the T(w)een Winter Read program, and must live or go to school in San Francisco. For more information, email youthservices@sfpl.org.
  • Reviews must include the following:
    • Title and author
    • A brief summary of the plot that doesn’t give away too much of the story.
    • Your thoughts on the book. Some things to consider are the book’s strengths and weaknesses; characters and setting; and a personal response to the book. We want to know what you think.
    • Reviews will be posted to The Mix at SFPL Instagram account.

Any more rules?

Not really, just remember T(w)een Winter Read is for ages 10–18. Participants are encouraged to sign-up for a SFPL card.

SFUSD students have a Scholar Card and have received the Scholar Card number via email.
