If you enjoy some history in your fiction, spend an hour hashing out the details of—and the history behind—this month’s selection, Yenta Mash's On the Landing: Stories. Recently translated from Yiddish to English, this collection crosses continents and intersects with upheavals, regime changes and the phases of a woman's life.

This is a hybrid event. Registration is required for Zoom attendance. In-person attendance does not require registration.

This meeting of Somewhere in Time is launching SFPL's participation in the Yiddish Book Center’s “Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries, a reading and discussion program to engage teens and adults in thinking about experiences of displacement, migration, and diaspora. In this program, librarians organize reading groups to discuss three books of Yiddish literature in translation, and one book related to the experience of a community served by their library. The Yiddish Book Center’s “Stories of Exile” Reading Groups for Public Libraries is made possible by a gift from Sharon Karmazin.

Read, discuss ideas and connect through the many book clubs hosted by SFPL.

Programs spotlighting women's history, rights and current issues.

HERstory is SFPL's celebration of Women's History Month, spotlighting authors, thinkers, visionaries and artists during the month of March. Program offerings are for all ages.
