Book Club: The Body Is Not an Apology

A partnership with TendWell Collective
Thursday, 6/15/2023
7:00 - 8:00

This is an experiential book club for Sonya Renee Taylor’s The Body Is Not An Apology: The Power of Radical Self-love.  The hour will be part discussion, part reading, part gentle movement and part restorative yoga.

The Body Is Not an Apology is so much more than a book about body image. It's a call to cultivate radical self-love and to unravel the ways in which we have been taught to think about our bodies, individually and collectively. It seeds the possibility for liberation for all bodies from violent and oppressive systems. We'll take time to explore the Radical Reflections offered in the book.

Sonya Renee Taylor is a New York Times best-selling author, world-renowned activist and thought leader on racial justice, body liberation and transformational change, international award winning artist, and founder of The Body Is Not an Apology (TBINAA), a global digital media and education company exploring the intersections of identity, healing, and social justice through the framework of radical self-love. In her book of the same name, The Body Is Not an Apology: The Power of Radical Self-Love, Taylor lays out her radical self-love vision, arguing that all people arrive on this planet in a state of self-love before internalizing messages of shame and injustice from systems of oppression. Healing, Taylor suggests, takes place through reconnecting with our inherent divine enoughness, transforming how we live in and relate to both our bodies and the bodies of others.
