Listen to a read-aloud of new children's picture story books by author-illustrator, Sophie Diao, and illustrator, Minnie Phan. Sophie Diao is the author-illustrator of Tiny Troubles. Minnie Phan is the illustrator of Simone, written by Viet Thanh Nguyen. Learn alongside Diao and Phan as they lead a drawing workshop on comics.

Sophie Diao is an artist living in Oakland. She's an illustrator of children’s books, including I Am the Wind written by Michael Karg, Sarah and the Big Wave written by Bonnie Tsui, and the bestseller I Am Golden written by Eva Chen. She is the creator of Tiny Troubles: Nelli's Purpose and is the talent behind many a Google Doodle.  

Minnie Phan is an illustrator and writer based in Oakland, CA. Her work has been featured by Google, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, and the San Francisco Public Library, for which she illustrated a citywide reading campaign in 2022. She is the illustrator of Simone, written by Pulitzer Prize winning author Viet Thanh Nguyen, and The Yellow Áo Dài, written by Hanh Bui.

Weaving Stories is the Library's celebration of the many diverse histories and cultures from Asian American, Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander (AANHPI) communities.
