Shanta Nimbark Sacharoff demonstrates how to carve a watermelon basket, filling it with an assortment of fresh fruits to create a stunning fruit salad display. This hands-on activity promises fun and delicious treats for all attendees. Conclude the session by indulging in the freshly prepared fruit salad served alongside snacks and homemade chai.
Shanta Nimbark Sacharoff is the author of Other Avenues Are Possible: Legacy of the People's Food System of the San Francisco Bay Area, Flavors of India Vegetarian Indian Cuisine and Cooking Together: A Vegetarian Co-op Cookbook. She is celebrated for her expertise in vegetarian cooking. Having moved to the United States in 1964 for college, she settled in San Francisco in 1973, where she actively participated in the Food Conspiracy and co-founded The San Francisco Bay Area’s Peoples Food System. Retired from co-ownership of Other Avenues, a worker-owned food cooperative, she continues to contribute articles on food, nutrition and cooking to publications like India Currents while teaching vegetarian cooking classes.
