Learn to play chess or improve your game play with the Bright Knights Chess Club. For ages 5–18. 

Bright Knights Chess Club is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 in the Excelsior District of San Francisco, California with the mission to “bring the community together through the game of chess”. The organization has hosted the Excelsior Youth Chess Club at the San Francisco Public Library Excelsior Branch since May 2003. Bright Knights Chess Club hosts free chess programs, community events and tournaments in the San Francisco Bay Area.

Attending Programs

All programs are drop-in (no registration necessary) unless otherwise noted. All SFPL locations are wheelchair accessible. For accommodations (such as ASL), call (415) 557-4557 or contact accessibility@sfpl.org. Requesting at least 3 business days in advance will help ensure availability.
